A CLOSER LOOK AT  DECOR & DESIGN INSPIRATION

When considering the business of Christmas decor styling, it’s understandable to think a professional decorator like myself will simply be turning your space red and green, covering every surface with faux garland and wreaths. That being said, with all due respect, you’d be wrong.

When I say custom curated holiday decorating services, I mean it. But, what does that entail, you ask? Well, the answer begins with each client’s unique story and source of inspiration. There are a wide range of places to look for holiday decor and design inspiration, (we’ll list them out in more detail to help you deck the halls later on in this article) but to summarize, it might be  from a color palette, texture, memory, theme or the style of the space itself.

Secondly, my approach to holiday decor styling comes from my unique experience as a decorator, both of my own home and those of family, friends and clients. Over time, I’ve found that it is those personal memories or sentimental items that transform my work into something truly magical for families to cherish.

If you can’t (or don’t want to) come up with a specific design style for your Christmas celebration yourself, I’m here to support with my own take based on your space and general sense of style. Overall, it’s my goal to ensure that when you walk into your room decorated for the holidays, you can’t help but smile as you are immersed in a fun, festive, and joyous ambiance.

Now, let’s talk about some real world bits and pieces that might inspire your holiday decorating experience:

  • Objects:

    • A ribbon or bow of a specific color, texture or origin story.

    • A tree, whether it’s a tinsel tree, colored tree, flocked tree or otherwise. Maybe it’s the type of needles that inspires you, whether that be fir, spruce or pine!

    • An ornament featuring a certain embellishment or sentimental story.

  • Style of room

    • Existing decor in the space might serve as your design inspiration, whether it’s leaning into a bohemian or mid century modern look.

    • The shape of the space such as a sprawling, sparse room with high ceilings which might inspire the incorporation of tall, full trees. A space with multiple doorways might inspire you to lean into the use of garlands as a focal point.

  • Specific theme

    • “Snowy Lane” might feature flocked trees, white and gold ornaments and pinecones.

    • “Classic Christmas” could highlight traditional Christmas colors, holly and poinsettia.

    • “Candycane Lane” would likely be centered around a red white and silver palette and a Nordic style tree.

  • Cherished memory

    • A family vacation could inspire your holiday design, whether that’s incorporating pieces inspired by a tropical beach or snowy ski lodge.

    • A favorite photograph might be the perfect source of inspiration whether that’s a sunset shot, grassy field or otherwise.

    • Christmas traditions are a popular source of inspiration, incorporating a design style that mirrors that of your own childhood experiences.
